How can I use this opportunity ?
My father in law has a restaurante located inside a Best Western hotel. He has 3 banquet rooms that can be opened up to be 1 large room Approx size of a gym, or can be sectioned into 3 conference rooms. There is a bar in the hotel, withing 100 ft of restaurant and an indoor pool. My question is for any ideas on events or happenings that I could plan to use this space thats available to me whenever he doesnt have the rooms booked for something else. He wouldnt charge me anything and would supply food or coffee if needed. So far I'v thought of an Art show or craft fair. Any other ideas? thanks, and if your near the Upstate Ny area, maybe you can help me put an event together.

Why is a cash bar so wrong?
We are paying for the wedding ourselves, we would like friends and family to celebrate with us
we have been lucky to get the reception venue free because they know people will be using the bar.
we are thinking of putting some money behind the bar for soft drinks.
we will lay on tea and coffee.
we are supplying our own champers
and of course all the food
why is it wrong to have the option of people buying their own drinks if they want something else.
we are just doing what we can afford, i suppose if this puts peoples noses up then that's their issue.
A cash bar isn't wrong, sounds like you are supplying lots of options (including champagne for toasts). You shouldn't start out your married life in debt (more than necessary). And, not meaning insult to your family and friends, but every group has a few people who will pour 'free' liquor down their throats non-stop. It's not about enjoyment, it's about free booze. And it ends badly, first, it runs up big bills, second, they get drunk and ruin the event, third, they can hurt themselves and others. And if it's family and friends, it's really hard to get them to stop. But if people have to spend their own money, they're generally a bit more sensible. Sounds like you have a great time planned, don't let the drinkers bully you into messing up your plans, it's YOUR wedding. (And all the best for the future)
