coffee calories calculator Frequently Asked Questions

I've lowered my calorie intake and I'm hungry!?

I have started to count calories in an attempt to loose some weight. According to the weight charts I should loose 20 lbs. I am 33 y/o. I went to some calorie calculators and it said I should consume 1450 calories a day to loose 1-2 lbs per week.
I am adding in exercise too. I can add some calories since I am exercising.

I had oatmeal for breakfast, pbj for lunch with some applesauce and some vanilla wafers for a snack.
I also had my coffee with creamer and one soda.

With that I've almost used up my calories for the day and I'm hungry.

Is this normal at first? I know my drinks are taking up some calories...but I can't completely give them up. I also cannot drink diet. I have limited myself to 1 soda and 1 cup of coffee a day...which is a sacrifice.

I don't feel like I should starve myself....but do want to loose weight.

For exercise I'm riding my bike for 30 min. and taking my dog on a walk.

The key to not being hungry is snack often and eat foods high in protein. Carbohydrates(simple or complex) will not last you as long as eating something high in protein would. A wonderful way to start off your day would be to eat a high protein breakfast with some fruit. You won't be starving by lunchtime.

Simple carbohydrates will go right through your system since it does not take long for your body to break them down, leaving you hungry again after just a little while. So instead go for complex which takes your body longer to break down(plus they are just much healthier for you). Get whole grain breads, pastas, and brown rice. I think an easy fix from what you have said you had today would be to eat almonds instead of vanilla wafers for a snack. Nuts are a great way to curb hunger(perfect snacking food). Try to get unsalted nuts if you can.

And it is true that you can eat more if you can cut out the soda(black coffee is actually a good metabolism booster so you can still have your cup of joe if it isn't sugar laden). You can also try switching your soda habits to something healthier, like tea. Or have TWO cups of coffee instead. But that's totally up to you (but don't forget soda is empty calories and also harms your body).

So snack often and eat more high protein foods! You will notice a big difference. Also eat fruits for snacks too, one of my favorites(besides my almond addiction) is an apple and peanut butter. There I just put in a high fiber food(with many other benefits) with a high protein food--I'll be good for at least 2-3 hours.
