I wore a WWI gas mask for a shoot that was attached to it's original canister and there were particles inside of the mask (decaying leather) that I later realized I was breathing in. We vacuumed it out first with a shop vac and thought we got most of the dust and crap out of there. I wore it for 5-10 minutes and when I removed it I started coughing and spitting out little black particles from inside the mask. The back of my throat hurts today and am getting headaches. I am worried because i read after the fact that these masks could have asbestos inside of them and the canisters deteriorate after some time and are harmful. Could i have asbestos poisoning or could I just be coming down with a cold. I also have a weird acid like taste in the back of my throat when drinking coffee (it could just be the starbucks brew). My friend who was shooting photos of me in the mask was just getting over a cold when this happened. I now regret wearing it after learning the dangers. Thanks.
