Is it "Kiv Han" or "Kiva Han"? What does that name means?
I don't believe the name of the coffee shop itself was recorded. I could be wrong, but I've never seen a name mentioned and it probably would be if it were known.
The word you're fumbling towards looks like 'kahvehane', which is Turkish for "coffeehouse" - 'kahve' is the Perso-Turkish form of Arabic 'qahwa' and the suffix '-hane' (< Persian khaaneh) is used to mean 'house', so literally "coffeehouse". The current Arabic word, which would have been used first as coffee was first popularized in Arabic-speaking Yemen, is 'maqha' مَقهى meaning "place of qahwa قَهوة " although I'm not sure what the first word for "coffee" was before 'qahwa' was settled on, probably 'bunn' بُنّ which now means "coffee beans" because it looks so similar to Ethiopian 'buna'.
Why does my coffee smell like petrol?
We bought a jar of instant coffee. When the first cup was made and we took it out of the microwave it had an oily residue on top. Also smelled funny. We both think it smelled sort of like petroleum or something. For whatever reason it didn't smell like anything I would want to drink. I don't wish to name the brand because I don't want to start a rumor at this point but it was a major brand. Any guess as to what is wrong with it?
It isn't the water. We opened a different jar of coffee and made a cup. It smelled and tasted just fine. For sure it is the coffee.
We have been using the same brand for 7 years. We prefer the taste of it over brewed coffee and we don't want the hassle of a coffee pot.
My guess isthat the coffee was humid and they dried it again to resell it.
