Caffeine enhances the alcohol. Speeds it up, which is why coffee is urged on people who have been drinking a lot in a feeble attempt to purge the system of the booze. You have to have remained on coffee (caffeine) for about 2 hours minimum before the affects of the alcohol can restore the "brain" to semi-normal functions. But the stress it puts on your organs isn't worth it. Makes them work double time. Pushes the alcohol through the system faster (a metabolism thing) but please don't drink alcohol after the coffee. Really bad for the heart, stomach & liver. Just drink clean water and as much as you can. If you're doing the New Years thing, stick to the water and then just toast the New Year coming in with a small glass of champagne if you must.
Drinking coffee before the booze? That's a recipe for cardio-infarction for the sensitive if ever I heard one.
