coffee with alcohol recipes Frequently Asked Questions
Does it have to be GOOD vodka?
I am thinking about making a batch of homemade coffee liquor (kaluah). All the recipes require vodka to be the main alcohol ingredient, but I'm wondering since it's going to be flavored with coffee and vanilla and such does it neccesarily have to be top shelf stuff? I was going to make a lot of it, so it wouldn't be very "cost effective" if I were to buy two handles of Grey Goose or something when Smirnoff would work just as well.
Will it change the flavor of my homemade kaluah if I use cheaper stuff?
Use a Vodka that you like, do not go by the cost. Yes different Vodkas will affect it. I personally like cheap Vodka, LOL
Any ideas for simple cold weather food?
My husband and I are fixing to rent a cabin in the Smokies for six nights. I plan on cooking a good bit while there, so we can be relaxing and not having to dress up to go out. The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, so I just need to buy the groceries when I get there (I am already packing non-refrigerated items with us such as flour, sugar, tea, coffee, spices, AND plenty of misc alcohol drinks
My small list of meals so far includes two nights worth of simple chicken and dumplings, and shrimp and crab bisque. Any other ideas on some good cold weather food? And keep in mind that any ingredient not used will have to be thrown out before we leave, so I'd like to keep recipes as cheap and simple as possible.
Thanks!
***I thought about chili, but the kind I make requires a TON of store bought ingredients.
***Good suggestion, but even boxed cornbread requires milk and eggs, so it'd be a waste to have to buy even half a dozen eggs and not use them
lamb shoulder. i know lamb isn't too popular in the the US but its great for winter meals. if its wrapped in foil it cant be 'over cooked, as the fat in the meat keeps it tender and moist. you can set a very low oven and slow roast lamb for 5 or 6 hours while you are out walking or just kicking back. the smell of roasting lamb is also very good to come home to. ideal herbs for lamb are rosemary and thyme. any leftovers make great sandwiches or a warm salad, or can even be curried. what ever you do, have a great time.
