Coffee is actually the highest priced agricultural product in the world. Over the last several years, the price of coffee have been depressed because of an oversupply of coffee with new producing countries coming online to produce cheaper, lower quality coffees. This change has created a glut of cheap coffee on the international market which the US is the largest market. American consumers are hooked on cheap and low quality coffee and this will continue to impact the global pricing of coffee at this low price point.
The redeeming grace of this is that as more upscale coffee boutiques continue to florish, demand for higher quality beans will increase. This will ultimately impact the higher end market. However, this demand is still small compared to the total demand. Fair trade beans also only take up a small percentage of the market.
If you move towards the consumer or retail side of the industry, I think the market is beginning to become saturated with some larger chains absorbing much of the business. Coffee is tremendously lucrative as cost for the coffee is typically no more than 5% of the revenue. This profit level has attracted many into the market. If you're going to enter this business, make sure you're offering something that is unique from the big chains which will allow you to charge a reasonable price. People don't necessarily drink coffee just becuase the coffee is good, and they certainly won't pay $5 for a cup of coffee unless there's a perceived value beyond taste. Understand your niche and your target customers and offer something that meets their requirements and you will stand a much better chance of survival and long term success. Finally, make sure you find the right location with the right traffic flow. A good location will make a world of difference...even if you have to pay more for the lease.
How can nicotine get you hooked, but cafferine and alcohol don't?
I drank coffee (rarely) and cola with cafferine in them sometimes,
but I don't drink 6 cans of cola a day...
but some smokers smoke a whole pack of ciggy a day

I know some people get drunk... few people are alcoholic.
I drank alcohol (rarely), but I am not addicted to that.
So.............................. I don't think nicotine can make smokers that addictive... I just don't believe that.
I do believe that Smokers can live without ciggy for a long long time.
I blame OCD, Obsessive-compulsive disorder, I think it is the mental thing... I don't believe a small amount of nicotine can control yall habit like this...
Cola industry made billion of years selling Sprite....
I like Sprite, because they taste good... they don't really
need cafferine in their drinks to make us buy their products.

nicotine actually IS an addictive chemical. caffeine can be as well.. but not in the same way. alcohol is really more of a habit.
